        Introduced  by M. of A. GUNTHER -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee on Governmental Operations
 
        AN ACT to amend the public lands law, in  relation  to  the  upkeep  and
          maintenance of certain state-owned land
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 5 of section 30-a of the public lands  law,  as
     2  renumbered by chapter 785 of the laws of 1982, is renumbered subdivision
     3  6 and a new subdivision 5 is added to read as follows:
     4    5.  The  head  of any state agency having custody or jurisdiction over
     5  facilities or structures on state-owned land that have not been  in  use
     6  for  thirty  days shall ensure that the property remains secure and that
     7  regular upkeep and maintenance are performed. Any costs  incurred  by  a
     8  municipality  or taxing district for emergency services, security, main-
     9  tenance, or upkeep of such property shall be reimbursed by the state.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
