Go to top STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 8385 IN ASSEMBLY January 9, 2014 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. ROSA -- read once and referred to the Committee on Judiciary AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to the law licensure of noncitizens The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The judiciary law is amended by adding a new section 90-a 2 to read as follows: 3 § 90-a. Licensure. 1. Upon passing the bar examination, a person shall 4 be eligible to obtain a law license, regardless of his or her immi- 5 gration status, as long as he or she is authorized to work in the United 6 States. Such eligible individuals shall include those with deferred 7 action citizenship status. 8 2. Nothing in this section shall be construed to impede, infringe or 9 diminish federal or state laws relating to labor and/or employment. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
