                    CONCURRENT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND ASSEMBLY
 
        proposing an amendment to section 2 of article 3 of the constitution, in
          relation to imposing term limits for members of the legislature

     1    Section  1. Resolved (if the Senate concur), That section 2 of article
     2  3 of the constitution be amended to read as follows:
     3    § 2. The senate shall consist of fifty members, except as  hereinafter
     4  provided.  The  senators  elected in the year one thousand eight hundred
     5  and ninety-five shall hold their offices  for  three  years,  and  their
     6  successors  shall be chosen for two years. The assembly shall consist of
     7  one hundred and fifty members. The assembly members elected in the  year
     8  one  thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight, and their successors, shall
     9  be chosen for two years.
    10    No person elected to office in the senate in  the  year  two  thousand
    11  twenty and in subsequent years shall serve as a member of the senate for
    12  more  than  four  four  year  terms.  No person elected to office in the
    13  assembly in the year two thousand twenty and in subsequent  years  shall
    14  serve  as  a  member of the assembly for more than four four year terms.
    15  Any partial term of office held as a member of the legislature prior  to
    16  the election to a four year term shall not be used to calculate any term
    17  limitation imposed pursuant to this paragraph.
    18    § 2. Resolved (if the Senate concur), That the foregoing amendments be
    19  referred  to  the  first regular legislative session convening after the
    20  next succeeding general election of members of  the  assembly,  and,  in
    21  conformity  with  section  1  of  article  19  of  the  constitution, be
    22  published three months previous to the time of such election.
