        Introduced by M. of A. ABBATE -- read once and referred to the Committee
          on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions
 
        AN  ACT  to amend the transportation law, in relation to providing fares
          free of charge to certain correction officers on passenger transporta-
          tion facilities operated by certain public transportation authorities
 

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  The transportation law is amended by adding a new section
     2  135-a to read as follows:
     3    § 135-a. Free use of passenger transportation facilities  operated  by
     4  certain  public  transportation authorities.   The Long Island Rail Road
     5  and every public transportation authority located in a city with a popu-
     6  lation of one million or more receiving operating assistance pursuant to
     7  section eighteen-b of this chapter shall, not later  than  March  first,
     8  two thousand fifteen, adopt regulations providing that use of any of its
     9  facilities  transporting  passengers  be  free of charge for persons who

    10  display an authorization shield and identification card evidencing  that
    11  they  are  correction  officers  of  the  New  York  city  department of
    12  correction and are performing their official duties or on their  way  to
    13  or from performing their official duties.
    14    § 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
