        AN  ACT to direct an inventory and report of all untested sexual offense
          collection kits
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  All local and state law enforcement agencies charged with
     2  the maintenance, storage and preservation of sexual  offense  collection
     3  kits shall conduct and report an inventory to the commissioner of crimi-
     4  nal  justice services of all such kits in their custody that may contain
     5  biological evidence that were collected but not submitted to the  scien-
     6  tific  crime  detection laboratory or a similar qualified laboratory for
     7  analysis.  The commissioner of criminal justice services shall establish
     8  the form of and timeline for such inventory. The commissioner of  crimi-
     9  nal justice services shall receive the reports from such law enforcement
    10  agencies  and report the results of such inventory to the legislature no
    11  later than six months from the effective date of this act.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
