        Introduced by M. of A. WILLIAMS -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee on Consumer Affairs and Protection
 
        AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring warn-
          ing labels on drinks containing tapioca pearls
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
     2  399-k to read as follows:
     3    § 399-k. Warning labels on drinks containing  tapioca  pearls.  1.  On
     4  every  drink  container  containing  tapioca  pearls,  commonly known as
     5  "bubble tea", sold within this state, there shall be printed thereon  or
     6  attached thereto a warning label. Such label shall contain the following
     7  statement:    "WARNING:  The  tapioca pearls found in this product are a
     8  choking hazard and can lead to digestive issues if ingested."
     9    2. Any person, firm, corporation  or  association  who  violates  this
    10  section  shall  be subject to a civil penalty of not more than one thou-
    11  sand dollars for each such violation.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after
    13  it shall have become a law.
