AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring
certain motor vehicle forms, applications, and examinations to be
available in Nepali
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new
2 section 224-b to read as follows:
3 § 224-b. Forms, applications and examinations to be made available in
4 Nepali. Except as otherwise prohibited by federal law, rule or regu-
5 lation the commissioner shall require that all written tests, forms,
6 registration forms and applications for an initial learner's permit or
7 driver's license issued pursuant to the provisions of this article are
8 available in Nepali and provide translation and interpretation services
9 in such language to such person applying for such learner's permit or
10 driver's license upon his or her request. Nothing contained in this
11 subdivision shall be deemed to prohibit the commissioner from making
12 such tests, forms, applications, and translation and interpretation
13 services available in other languages.
14 § 2. This act shall take effect one year after it shall have become a
15 law.
