        Introduced  by  M.  of  A.  DE LA ROSA  -- read once and referred to the
          Committee on Social Services
 
        AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation  to  mental  health
          training for intake workers at homeless shelters
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 17 of the social services law is amended by  adding
     2  a new subdivision (e-1) to read as follows:
     3    (e-1)  in  conjunction  with the commissioner of the office for mental
     4  health, develop and require participation of all employees or volunteers
     5  at a homeless shelter who provide intake services in a training  course.
     6  Such  course  shall  focus on best practices for identifying individuals
     7  with signs of mental illness and for connecting individuals who  suffer,
     8  or  are  reasonably likely to suffer from mental illness with all appro-
     9  priate services. Such training shall be conducted live and in person  so
    10  that the trainer can interact with the trainees.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
