        Introduced  by  M. of A. OTIS -- read once and referred to the Committee
          on Governmental Operations
 
        AN ACT to amend the public officers law, in relation  to  exempting  the
          village  historian  for the village of Port Chester from the residency
          requirement
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 3 of the public officers law is amended by adding a
     2  new subdivision 70 to read as follows:
     3    70. In the village of Port Chester, Westchester county, the provisions
     4  of  this  section  requiring  a person to be a resident of the political
     5  subdivision or municipal corporation of the state for which  he  or  she
     6  shall  be  chosen  or  within  which  his  or her official functions are
     7  required to be exercised, shall not prevent a person  from  holding  the
     8  office  of  village  historian for the village of Port Chester, provided
     9  that such person resides within the state of New York. Provided,  howev-
    10  er,  the person performing the functions of local historian in any other
    11  village shall be a resident of such village unless otherwise provided by
    12  an act of the state legislature.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
