Walczyk) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Judiciary AN ACT to amend the uniform city court act and the judiciary law, in relation to Watertown city court judges The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivision (d) of section 2104 of the uniform city court 2 act, as amended by chapter 548 of the laws of 2013, is amended to read 3 as follows: 4 (d) The number of judges of the city court in each city shall be as 5 provided herein. Full-time judgeships are specifically so designated, 6 all others are part-time: 7 Par. Subparagraph (i) of paragraph 1 of subdivision (e) of section 43 2104 of the uniform city court act, as amended by chapter 455 of the 44 laws of 2014, is amended to read as follows: 45 (i) by the mayor of the city for which the court on which he or she 46 will serve has been established, with the advice and consent of the city 47 council: part-time city court judge of Beacon, part-time city court 48 judge of Corning, part-time city court judge of Cortland, part-time city 49 court judge of Gloversville, city court judge of Glen Cove who serves in 50 the office that on June first, two thousand one was an appointive office 51 pursuant to this subparagraph, city court judge of Jamestown who serves 52 in the office that was created during the calendar year commencing Janu- 53 ary first, two thousand thirteen, part-time city court judge of Olean, 54 city court judges of Plattsburgh, city court judge of Port Jervis who 55 serves in the office that formerly was that of acting city court judge 56 of Port Jervis, city court judges of Rye [and], the city court judge ofA. 10514 3 1 Salamanca who serves in the office that formerly was that of acting city 2 court judge of Salamanca, and the part-time city court judge of Water- 3 town who serves in the office that was full-time on March thirty-first, 4 two thousand twenty-one. 5 § 3. Section 221-i of the judiciary law, as amended by chapter 548 of 6 the laws of 2013, is amended to read as follows: 7 § 221-i. Salary of judges of the city courts outside the city of New 8 York. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, for purposes of this 6 act, on the effective date of this section, in Watertown, an acting 7 full-time judgeship shall be abolished and replaced with a part-time 8 judgeship. Any person serving in a judgeship abolished by this section 9 shall continue in service in the part-time judgeship that replaces such 10 abolished judgeship hereunder for the remainder of the term of office to 11 which he or she was selected as acting city court judge. 12 § 5. (a) In the event that the compensation to be paid a judge of a 13 city court, as prescribed by this act or any other provision of law, is 14 lower than the compensation being paid such judge immediately prior to 15 the effective date of this section, such judge shall, for as long as he 16 or she holds the office in which he or she is serving on such effective 17 date, receive such higher compensation (plus any increases thereto as 18 shall thereafter be provided by law). 19 (b) Notwithstanding any provision of this act, this act shall not 20 extend or diminish any term of judicial office commenced prior to the 21 effective date of this section. 22 § 6. This act shall take effect on the first of April next succeeding 23 the date on which it shall have become a law.
