        Introduced  by  COMMITTEE  ON  RULES  --  (at request of M. of A. Ramos,
          Castelli) -- read once and referred  to  the  Committee  on  Veterans'
          Affairs
 
        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  civil service law, in relation to expanding the
          definition of "time of war"  for  purposes  of  calculating  veterans'
          service credit
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-

        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subparagraph 8 of paragraph c of subdivision 1  of  section
     2  85  of  the  civil  service  law, as added by chapter 467 of the laws of
     3  1991, is amended and a new subparagraph 9 is added to read as follows:
     4    (8) Hostilities participated in by the military forces of  the  United
     5  States  in  the  Persian  Gulf,  from the second day of August, nineteen
     6  hundred ninety to the end of such hostilities including military service
     7  in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation  New
     8  Dawn  and was the recipient of the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary
     9  Medal or the Iraqi campaign medal or the Afghanistan campaign medal.
    10    (9) Hostilities participated in by the military forces of  the  United

    11  States  in  Bosnia and Herzgegovina from November twenty-first, nineteen
    12  hundred ninety-five to November first,  two  thousand  seven  or  was  a
    13  recipient of the Kosovo campaign medal.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
