        Introduced  by  COMMITTEE  ON  RULES  -- (at request of M. of A. Thiele,
          Palumbo) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Election Law
 
        AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to the number  of  polling
          sites for early voting in certain counties
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 2  of  section  8-600  of  the
     2  election  law,  as added by chapter 6 of the laws of 2019, is amended to
     3  read as follows:
     4    (a) The board of elections shall designate polling  places  for  early
     5  voting,  which  may  include  the offices of the board of elections, for
     6  persons to vote early pursuant to this title. There shall be  so  desig-
     7  nated  at  least one early voting polling place for every full increment
     8  of fifty thousand registered voters in each county;  provided,  however,
     9  the  number  of  early  voting  polling  places in a county shall not be
    10  required to be greater than seven, and a county with  fewer  than  fifty
    11  thousand  voters shall have at least one early voting polling place; and
    12  provided further that in counties with a population of  one  million  or
    13  more  based  on  the latest federal decennial census, but outside cities
    14  with a population of one million or more, based on  the  latest  federal
    15  decennial  census,  each  town  and  city in such counties shall have at
    16  least one polling place.
    17    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
