Senate Resolution No. 284
 
BY: Senator COONEY
 
        HONORING  Nancy  Johns-Price  upon the occasion of
        her  retirement  after  more  than   36   years   of
        distinguished  service  to the City of Rochester and
        County of Monroe
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative  Body  to  acknowledge
the  significant  milestones  in  the  distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nancy Johns-Price upon the occasion of her retirement after more than 36
years  of  distinguished service to the City of Rochester and the County
of Monroe; she will officially retire on Friday, January 29, 2021; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Nancy   Johns-Price   earned   a   master's   degree   in
Interdisciplinary   Arts   for  Children  from  SUNY  Brockport,  and  a
bachelor's degree in Theater with an emphasis  in  directing  Children's
Theater  from  the  University  of Northern Colorado; prior to moving to
Rochester, she made her living as an actress and a director; and
 
  WHEREAS, Nancy Johns-Price joined the City of  Rochester  government
in  1985,  and  worked  for  the County of Monroe from 1993 to 1998 as a
Youth Participation Project Coordinator; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 2009, was appointed as  Administrator  of  the  City  of
Rochester's Southeast Quadrant Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) after a
long  and  successful  career  in youth development in the Department of
Recreation and Human Services; and
 
  WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, NSC preserves  and  improves
the  quality of life and level of opportunity in Rochester by delivering
City services directly  to  neighborhoods  and  establishing  grassroots
community partnerships that empower residents and businesses to maximize
the benefits of living and working in Rochester; and
 
  WHEREAS, As the Administrator, Nancy Johns-Price earned a reputation
for  her  seemingly  unlimited  accessibility and ability to improve the
delivery of City services through customer engagement; and
 
  WHEREAS,  She  helped  develop  the  Rochester  Police  Department's
Positive  Ticket  program  and  played  a  direct role in initiatives to
improve the business  permit  process  and  reform  the  Nuisance  Point
Abatement program; and
 
  WHEREAS,  As  a  recreation leader and youth development specialist,
Nancy Johns-Price helped create several programs that are now staples of
youth services,  including:  Biz  Kids,  Art  Smart  Camp,  Flower  City
AmeriCorps, and the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This extraordinary woman has been the living embodiment of
a true public servant with an energy level that is awe inspiring; and
 
  WHEREAS, Throughout her esteemed career,  Nancy  Johns-Price  always
brought  the highest levels of approachability, dedication and diligence
to her work, and did so with great enthusiasm and optimism; and
 
  WHEREAS, In retirement, Nancy Johns-Price intends to spend more time
with  her  husband  of  40  years  and her two grandchildren, as well as
assist her two daughters and son-in-law  in  the  development  of  their
private businesses; and
 
  WHEREAS,  She will also spend more time in her volunteer activities,
particularly  with  I  am  Isiah,  Inc.,  a   youth-suicide   prevention
organization  named  for one of the youth Nancy Johns-Price worked with,
Isiah Johnson; and
 
  WHEREAS, It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
individuals  of  such  noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the  citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nancy Johns-Price upon the occasion of her retirement, and to wish
her well in all her future endeavors; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Nancy Johns-Price.
