CONGRATULATING Sophie Pollack upon the occasion of
capturing the 185-pound Division wrestling title at
the first ever NYSPHSAA Girls State Wrestling
Invitational on January 27, 2023
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Sophie Pollack, a member of the Canandaigua Braves Women's Wrestling
team, upon the occasion of capturing the 185-pound Division wrestling
title at the first ever NYSPHSAA Girls State Wrestling Invitational on
Friday, January 27, 2023, at the SRC Arena and Events Center in
Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, In front of a capacity crowd and a fan base of family,
friends and teammates, Sophie Pollack defeated all of her opponents via
pin with the final lasting just 47 seconds; and
WHEREAS, In addition to this monumental win, Sophie Pollack placed
fifth at the Fargo National Tournament and sixth at the US Open
Tournament in Las Vegas; she is ranked in the Top 10 in the Country for
Women's Wrestling and has paved the way for the future of women in the
sport of wrestling; and
WHEREAS, For the past four years, Sophie Pollack has earned a
varsity letter competing in girls' tournaments and dual matches against
male wrestlers, and after graduating, she will wrestle for Delaware
Valley University in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Eric Mullen worked hard to hone
the skills of this champion, teaching this outstanding athlete lessons
which will prove invaluable both on and off the mat; and
WHEREAS, Sophie Pollack, with the support of her parents, Jill
Pollack and her father and stepmother Kevin and Jennifer Pollack, has
clearly utilized dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a
lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of
her school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sophie Pollack upon the occasion of capturing the 185-pound
Division wrestling title at the first ever NYSPHSAA Girls State
Wrestling Invitational on January 27, 2023; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sophie Pollack, Head Coach Eric Mullen, Athletic Director
Jim Simmons, and School Superintendent Jamie Farr.
