Senate Resolution No. 671

        MOURNING     the    death    of    Carol    Isabel
        Cumberbatch-Emanuel,  distinguished   citizen,   and
        devoted member of her community
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Carol Isabel Cumberbatch-Emanuel  of  Brooklyn,  New  York,
died on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the age of 66; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Carol  Isabel Cumberbatch-Emanuel distinguished herself in
her  profession  and  by  her   sincere   dedication   and   substantial
contribution to the welfare of her community; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Born  in  Port  of  Spain, Trinidad, to the late Clyde and
Evelyn Cumberbatch, Carol Isabel Cumberbatch-Emanuel was the 4th  of  10
children and migrated from Trinidad in 1971; Carol attended Clara Barton
High School and New York City College of Technology (CUNY); and
 
  WHEREAS,    Carol   Isabel   Cumberbatch-Emanuel's   commitment   to
excellence, and her spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields  of
enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Carol  Isabel  Cumberbatch-Emanuel  served  as a certified
notary public and senior payroll tax accountant until retirement; and
 
  WHEREAS, In addition to her professional pursuits, in acts  of  true
selflessness    and    care    for    her    community,   Carol   Isabel
Cumberbatch-Emanuel served devotedly  as  a  youth  leader  through  the
Explorers   Program,   later   serving   with   her  block  association,
participating in  numerous  events  with  the  69th  Precinct  Community
Council,  and  in her final years, became a leader and treasurer for the
69th Precinct Clergy Council; she also volunteered to support youth  and
elderly members of her beloved Canarsie, Brooklyn community; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Carol   Isabel   Cumberbatch-Emanuel   is  remembered  as
ambitious, adventurous,  generous,  lovingly  outspoken,  and  admirably
fashionable;  she  never  passed  up an opportunity to dance, laugh, and
support her beloved tight-knit family; and
 
  WHEREAS, Carol Isabel Cumberbatch-Emanuel is survived by her  loving
husband,  Elwood;  children,  Alisha  and  Jerome; stepchildren, Zaniba,
Aisha, Nyaisha, and  Shakia;  granddaughter,  Aaliyah;  siblings,  June,
Merle,  Cheryl,  Cynthia, Martin, Gerard, Coleen, and Crystal; 18 nieces
and nephews, a host of great-nieces and nephews, and godchildren; she is
predeceased by her brother, Michael; and
 
  WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a  sense  of
compassion,  Carol  Isabel  Cumberbatch-Emanuel  leaves  behind a legacy
which will long endure  the  passage  of  time  and  will  remain  as  a
 
comforting  memory  to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be
it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the  death  of  Carol  Isabel  Cumberbatch-Emanuel,  distinguished
citizen, and devoted member of her community; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Carol Isabel Cumberbatch-Emanuel.
