HONORING Sonia Daly upon the occasion of her
special recognition by Schneps Media at the
Caribbean Impact Awards on March 30, 2023
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sonia Daly upon the occasion of her special recognition by Schneps Media
at the Caribbean Impact Awards on March 30, 2023, at Russo's On The Bay
in Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, The annual Caribbean Impact Awards, is a celebrated event
hosted by Caribbean Life and presented by Elliot Ifraimoff & Associates,
Injury Attorneys that recognizes the achievements and contributions of
outstanding individuals of Caribbean background who have created the
most impact in their respective career fields, ranging from healthcare,
the arts, to advocacy, entrepreneurship, and much more; and
WHEREAS, Schneps Media is the leading media company serving New York
City, Westchester, Long Island, and Philadelphia, is the publisher of
Caribbean Life, and is proud to bring together these outstanding
individuals at the annual Caribbean Impact Awards to connect, support
one another, conduct business, and build a community; and
WHEREAS, The celebrated honorees at the annual Awards are committed
to creating and framing the path for incoming immigrants and inspiring
generations to come; and
WHEREAS, Born in Georgetown, Guyana, to Guyanese immigrants, Sonia
Daly has a deep respect and love for her culture; and
WHEREAS, Sonia Daly is a graduate of Utica College and Syracuse
University; and
WHEREAS, Using her education and passion to make positive change,
Sonia Daly has dedicated herself for the past 15 years to providing
access to immigrants from the Caribbean and continental African
diaspora; and
WHEREAS, Sonia Daly's truly commendable drive in her current career
with the Municipal Identification Card Program, IDNYC, shines through in
all her successes; in 2018, the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs
commissioner sent her to Stockholm, Sweden to share best practices in
launching a successful municipal ID card program to a consortium of over
100 European cities; and
WHEREAS, Previously, Sonia Daly dedicated her time to the YMCA of
Greater New York, writing an award-winning grant, "Strings for Life", to
provide Caribbean and African American preschoolers with violin
instruction at the Flatbush YMCA; and
WHEREAS, From 2008 to 2013, Sonia Daly also served as Chief of Staff
to long-time State Senator Kevin Parker; and
WHEREAS, An advocate for maternal wellness, Sonia Daly authored and
recorded a guided meditation for women who have suffered through a
miscarriage and plans to record other meditations in the future; she
recently received the first of her birth doula certifications and hopes
to support those who don't have access to prenatal wellness care; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sonia Daly upon the occasion of her special recognition by Schneps
Media at the Caribbean Impact Awards on March 30, 2023; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sonia Daly.
