Senate Resolution No. 731
 
BY: Senator PERSAUD
 
        CONGRATULATING  Evan  P. Campbell-Tinglin upon the
        occasion of  her  retirement  after  many  years  of
        dedicated  service  as  a  School  Counselor  at The
        Science and Medicine Middle School 366 of  Brooklyn,
        New York
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational   leaders,  whose  dedication  and  achievements  have  been
instrumental in developing character  and  academic  excellence  in  the
young people of New York State; and
 
  WHEREAS,  New  York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative  caliber  of  its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Evan
P.   Campbell-Tinglin upon the occasion of  her  retirement  after  many
years  of  dedicated  service  as  a School Counselor at The Science and
Medicine Middle School 366 of Brooklyn, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, The future success of our State  and  Nation  is  dependent
upon  individuals  such  as Evan P. Campbell-Tinglin, who have dedicated
their lives to nurturing our most precious resource, our youth; and
 
  WHEREAS, Evan P. Campbell-Tinglin is the  eighth  of  nine  children
born  to the late Linda and Cleveland Campbell of Broadleaf, Manchester,
Jamaica, West Indies; she received her early education at Broadleaf  All
Age School and New Bridge Private High School; and
 
  WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Evan P. Campbell-Tinglin
attended  Caenwood  Junior  Teachers'  College  where  she  successfully
completed  a  rigorous  three-month  course;  this  training  adequately
prepared  her  for  a  pre-trained teaching job at the Broadleaf All Age
School where she taught for two years; and
 
  WHEREAS, Evan P. Campbell-Tinglin's deep love for her  students  and
the  profession  of  teaching  led her to Bethlehem Teachers' College in
Jamaica, where she graduated with honors after interning at  Scholefield
All Age School; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Active  in  student life at the college, as well as in the
churches at Bethlehem and Scholefield, Evan P.  Campbell-Tinglin  served
as  Vice  President of the student body and was highly respected by all;
she went on to teach English Language and General Science at  Christiana
Secondary   School  and  served  with  distinction  as  Assistant  Grade
Supervisor; she was also very active at Zorn Moravian Church; and
 
  WHEREAS, Later, Evan P.  Campbell-Tinglin  migrated  to  the  United
States as an International Student at Western Carolina University, where
she  earned  a bachelor's degree in middle school education with a minor
in school counseling, and a master's degree in school counseling; and
 
  WHEREAS, An honor student and a member of Kappa Delta  Pi,  Evan  P.
Campbell-Tinglin  was awarded a graduate assistantship and taught career
development to seniors as well  as  study  skills  to  freshmen  at  the
University; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Upon   the   completion   of   her   studies,   Evan   P.
Campbell-Tinglin relocated to New  York,  and  gained  employment  as  a
Rehabilitation   Counselor   with  Federation  Employment  and  Guidance
Services serving as a Primary Therapist and Coordinator  of  Article  16
Services; and
 
  WHEREAS, Yearning to work with children in a school setting, Evan P.
Campbell-Tinglin  received her license in School Counseling, followed by
employment with New York City Department of Education;  she  steadfastly
served the students and families of East Flatbush, and more specifically
the  Winthrop  Intermediate  School 232 community for over 10 years with
zeal and enthusiasm; and
 
  WHEREAS, Evan P. Campbell-Tinglin went  on  to  serve  as  a  School
Counselor  at  The  Science  and Medicine Middle School 366 in Brooklyn,
where she was a vital part of the community and was the  "go-to  person"
for students, families and school staff; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Throughout her 13 years of tireless service to School 366,
Evan P. Campbell-Tinglin was  instrumental  in  ensuring  her  students'
academic,  college,  career  readiness,  and social-emotional needs were
adequately met; she brought an uncompromising standard of excellence  to
her  work  and  a warm sense of caring and concern to every young person
she helped; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  true  champion  for  children  and   youth,   Evan   P.
Campbell-Tinglin   founded  a  Scholarship  Foundation  in  her  beloved
parents' name in her  native  island  of  Jamaica  which  provides  book
scholarships for student across grade levels, and funds general supplies
and other needs for the students at Broadleaf All Age School; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Evan  P. Campbell-Tinglin gives credit to her late parents
for instilling Christian values in her, and teaching her by example, the
virtue of serving others; she was recently married and currently resides
in Lake Worth, Florida, with her husband Michael; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is  the  custom  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
individuals  of  such  noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the  citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate  Evan  P.  Campbell-Tinglin  upon  the  occasion   of   her
retirement  after  many years of dedicated service as a School Counselor
at The Science and Medicine Middle School 366 of Brooklyn, New York; and
be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Evan P. Campbell-Tinglin.
