MOURNING the death of Charles Sally, United States
Army veteran, distinguished firefighter, and devoted
member of his community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Charles Sally was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Charles Sally, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Charles Joseph Sally of Peekskill, New York, died on
Monday, April 24, 2023; and
WHEREAS, The son of Irish immigrants John and Margaret (O'Neill)
Sally, Charles Sally, affectionately known as Charlie, was born and
raised in the Bronx, New York, alongside his siblings, John "Jackie",
Lucille, Ann and Mary; and
WHEREAS, Charles Sally proudly served his country as a member of the
United States Army's 45th Infantry Division during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Charles Sally
joined the New York Police Department before joining the New York Fire
Department, retiring in 1979 after an illustrious 24-year career with
Ladder Company No. 19; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Charles Sally was also a Life member of the Peekskill Elks
Club; and
WHEREAS, Charles Sally and the former Mary Morris were united in
marriage in 1966 at Assumption Church in Peekskill, New York; the couple
enjoyed a long and loving marriage until Mary's passing in 2000; and
WHEREAS, A man of indomitable faith and dedication, Charles Sally
was a devoted Catholic; he had the gift of gab and loved to spend time
with his friends and family, especially his lifelong childhood friend,
the late Fred "Freddy" Beuchert; furthermore, he lived in the home he
and his beloved wife shared in Peekskill until his passing; and
WHEREAS, Charles Sally is survived by his godson, Frank Quaranta;
and goddaughter, Lisa Cutts; as well as his nieces and nephews, Lisa
Greene, James Quaranta, Bob Morris, Diane Mohr, and Karen Cortese; and
WHEREAS, Charles Sally's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives he touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Charles Sally leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who
were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death Charles Sally, and to express its deepest condolences to
his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Charles Sally.
