Senate Resolution No. 1060

        HONORING  Trooper  Michael  J.  Winkelman upon the
        occasion of his  designation  as  recipient  of  the
        Superintendent's  Commendation Award by the New York
        State Police on May 17, 2023
 
  WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize  and  acknowledge  those  within  our  midst  who  have   made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to honor Trooper
Michael J. Winkelman upon the occasion of his designation  as  recipient
of  the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New York State Police
to be celebrated at its 47th Annual  Superintendent's  Commendation  and
Awards  Day  Ceremony  on  Wednesday,  May 17, 2023, at the State Police
Academy in Albany, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, This prestigious award was established to honor outstanding
individuals, dedicated  to  their  service  to  law  enforcement,  whose
valiant efforts protect the people of New York State; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On  September 22, 2022, Trooper Michael J. Winkelman acted
bravely in the line of duty to rescue a  teenage  driver  from  a  fiery
accident, where the 17-year-old driver crashed into a barn and it became
engulfed in flames; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Despite  the  many  safety  hazards  present at the scene,
Trooper  Michael  J.  Winkelman's  decisive  and   life-saving   actions
exemplify the finest traditions of New York State Police; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Rare  indeed  is  the  impressive  dedication  shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Trooper Michael J.  Winkelman
has displayed throughout his life; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown  a
long  and  sustained  commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Trooper Michael J. Winkelman upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New  York
State Police on May 17, 2023; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Trooper Michael J. Winkelman.
