COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Temple Beth
Torah of Melville, New York, to be celebrated on May
11, 2019
WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
50th Anniversary of Temple Beth Torah of Melville, New York, to be
celebrated at an evening of dinner and dancing on Saturday, May 11,
2019; and
WHEREAS, For five decades, Temple Beth Torah has diligently worked
to inspire acts of loving kindness, while merging traditional values,
such as Chesed, Chavurah and Klal Yisrael, with contemporary ideals to
cultivate a thriving and nurturing community; and
WHEREAS, This landmark Jewish institution located in Melville, Dix
Hills, New York, has enhanced its community through numerous charitable
Mitzvah projects including the Wyandanch Summer Camp, and annual food,
blood and clothing drives; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Temple Beth Torah has enriched the lives of
the area's Jewish population through various spiritual, cultural and
educational events such as 3,000 B'nai Mitzvah ceremonies, weddings,
baby namings and funerals; and
WHEREAS, Temple Beth Torah has also supported Israel through the
purchase of an ambulance and ambucycle, and provided aid to elderly
Holocaust survivors living below the poverty line and nursery school
children with cancer; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Senior Rabbi Susan Heneson
Moskowitz, Temple Beth Torah is committed to the development of the
Jewish identity and spiritual growth of its members and future
generations through Torah, Tikkun Olam and worship; and
WHEREAS, Many of Temple Beth Torah's clergy are leaders in the
Jewish community and beyond, and have served on various boards including
the New York Board of Rabbis, the Long Island Board of Rabbis, the
Women's Rabbinic Network, the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center, Lend A
Hand Project, Island Harvest, The Interfaith Nutrition Network and
Solomon Schechter Day School of Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, For 50 years, Temple Beth Torah has strived to be a safe
harbor where meaningful experiences take root and grow; and
WHEREAS, Temple Beth Torah stands on the threshold of tomorrow,
prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retaining
that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Temple Beth Torah, fully confident
that this commemoration reflects the belief in those values which
enhance the dignity and purpose of life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Senior Rabbi Susan Heneson Moskowitz, Temple Beth Torah.
