Senate Resolution No. 1299
 
BY: Senator AKSHAR
 
        MOURNING  the  untimely  death  of  Shakeel  Khan,
        renowned  Restaurateur,  distinguished  citizen  and
        devoted member of his community
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  with  great  sorrow  and  deep  regret  that  this
Legislative Body  records  the  passing  of  Shakeel  Khan,  noting  the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Shakeel  Khan of Vestal, New York, died on Saturday, March
30, 2019, at the young age of 50 years old; and
 
  WHEREAS, Born  in  Pakistan,  Shakeel  Khan  moved  to  Vestal  from
Brooklyn  in  2017  to start a business and create a better life for his
family; and
 
  WHEREAS, Shakeel Khan distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to  the  welfare  of
his community; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Putting his considerable talents to good use, Shakeel Khan
developed and opened his own restaurant, Halal Bites, located in Johnson
City, New York; since its inception,  Halal  Bites  has  been  a  family
favorite   throughout   the   Johnson  City  area  and  patrons  enjoyed
interacting and meeting with this friendly and personable man; and
 
  WHEREAS, Known as a hard  worker  and  loyal  friend,  Shakeel  Khan
brought  a  zest  and  passion  for life to everything he did; his burly
mustache and smiling face coupled with his enthusiasm and  genuine  love
of people was contagious; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Shakeel  Khan  enjoyed sharing his joy of cooking with his
loving family and friends; he helped and at times catered  many  events,
including  assisting  at  the  Johnson  City mosque alongside his family
members and friends; and
 
  WHEREAS, Shakeel Khan is survived by his  devoted  wife,  and  their
three children, all of whom, along with both the Johnson City and Vestal
communities will truly miss him; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Shakeel Khan leaves behind a legacy which will  long  endure
the  passage  of  time  and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
celebrate  the life and accomplishments of Shakeel Khan, recognizing his
loving labors and purposeful life, and conveying its sincere condolences
to his beloved family; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of Shakeel Khan.
