HONORING Reverend John Francis Hogan, Jr. upon the
occasion of celebrating the 35th Anniversary of his
priestly ordination
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish
themselves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and
preeminence of service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Reverend John Francis Hogan, Jr. upon the occasion of celebrating the
35th Anniversary of his priestly ordination on June 4, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Born in Oswego, New York, John Francis Hogan, Jr. graduated
from Oswego High School in 1974; he went on to study at Wadhams Hall
Seminary College and earned his Bachelor's degree in philosophy at SUNY
Oswego; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend John Francis Hogan, Jr. completed his
theological studies at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, New
York; he was ordained on June 4, 1988; and
WHEREAS, On July 1, 2019, Reverend John Francis Hogan, Jr. was
appointed the 16th Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Camden,
New York where he continues to serve today; he previously served as the
Pastor of
St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Oswego, New York, St. John the
Baptist in Rome, New York, St. John the Evangelist in Pulaski, New York,
and St. Francis Xavier in Lacona, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend John Francis Hogan, Jr. was also the parochial
vicar at St. Matthew's Church in East Syracuse, New York; his first
assignment was parochial vicar at St. Charles Borromeo in Syracuse; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, Reverend John Francis
Hogan, Jr. also served as chaplain for the Hibernians from 1988 to 1994
at St. Camillus in Syracuse, and chaplain of the Knights of Columbus in
Pulaski from 1995 to 2003; in addition, he served five terms (20 years)
on the Diocesan Presbyteral Council, including one year as chairperson;
and
WHEREAS, During his 35 years as a priest, Reverend John Francis
Hogan, Jr. faithfully served his parishioners and community by bringing
new members into the church through Baptism, providing spiritual
direction, visiting the sick, uniting couples in holy matrimony,
instructing in faith, performing funerals and burials, and providing
daily prayers for the People of God; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when a
person of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our
attention, it is appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and
commend that individual for the edification of others; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Reverend John Francis Hogan, Jr. upon the occasion of celebrating
the 35th Anniversary of his priestly ordination; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend John Francis Hogan, Jr.
