Senate Resolution No. 1453

        CONGRATULATING  Alexa  Jacobs upon the occasion of
        capturing the  2023  NYSPHSAA  Division  II  Outdoor
        Track Championship in the 100-meter dash
 
  WHEREAS,  Individual  and  team  championships are highly favored in
high  school  sports;  this  Legislative  Body  commends  rare  athletic
achievements  and  pays  special  recognition  to  those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both  the  moral  and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Alexa
Jacobs  upon  the  occasion  of  capturing the 2023 NYSPHSAA Division II
Outdoor Track Championship in the 100-meter dash on Saturday,  June  10,
2023, at Middletown High School in Middletown, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  To  the  praise  and  applause  of  her excited fans, Earl
Vandermeulen High School freshman, Alexa Jacobs, placed  first  for  the
Division  II  Public  School athletes in the 100-meter dash; her time of
12.36 was also the school's record; she set additional school records as
a participant of the 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams this year; and
 
  WHEREAS, Alexa Jacobs has proven her athletic  prowess  in  previous
years; in 2022, while in eighth grade, she set the school record as part
of the 4X100 relay team; in addition to winter and spring track, she has
been  a  valuable  player on the varsity girls' soccer team for 2022 and
2023; and
 
  WHEREAS, Not  only  an  outstanding  athlete,  Alexa  Jacobs  is  an
exceptional academic, maintaining a 98.48 GPA; as an active student, she
is  a  member  of  the  varsity club; she resides in Port Jefferson, New
York, with her mother, Beth, and older sister, Jenna; and
 
  WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork,  pride,
and  accomplishment, and Alexa Jacobs has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which  is  a  tradition  of  her  school;  now,
therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Alexa Jacobs  upon  the  occasion  of  capturing  the  2023
NYSPHSAA  Division  II Outdoor Track Championship in the 100-meter dash;
and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That copies of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Alexa Jacobs and Athletic Director Adam Sherrard.
