COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis
Club of Schenectady, New York, on May 15, 2019
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Schenectady,
New York, to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 15, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to
changing the world, one child and one community at a time; and
WHEREAS, The six permanent objectives of Kiwanis International are
to: give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material
values of life; encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all
human relationships; promote the adoption and the application of higher
social, business, and professional standards; develop, by precept and
example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship;
provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring
friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better
communities; and cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public
opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of
righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1919, the Kiwanis Club of
Schenectady has continually supported numerous local children's
programs, primarily those from underserved socioeconomic groups; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of President Dr. A.R. Warner,
the Kiwanis Club of Schenectady partnered with the Schenectady Fire
Department to raise the necessary funds to open Sunnyview Hospital in
1929; through the Club's initial endeavors, the Hospital continues to
thrive and prosper, serving the residents of Schenectady with quality,
compassionate care; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization then turned its efforts to fighting
the polio epidemic which was endangering the children in its community;
and
WHEREAS, In 1964, Everett S. Lee published The Story of Kiwanis Clubof Schenectady, which chronicled his tenure as President of Club in
1947; today, his reference book can be found at the Schenectady County
Public Library so all may read about the Club's steadfast determination
to serve the young people of Schenectady; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Kiwanis Club of Schenectady remains true to its
century old mission of Serving the Children of the World by sponsoring
numerous programs which benefit various worthy organizations, positively
impacting the lives of countless local children; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 100-year history, the Kiwanis Club
of Schenectady has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Kiwanis Club of Schenectady is in direct
correlation to the efforts of President Michael DellaRocco and its
dedicated members, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Schenectady,
New York, on May 15, 2019; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael DellaRocco, President, Kiwanis Club of
Schenectady, New York.
