HONORING Charmaine Ushkow upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Creative Spirit
Award by The Arts Center of the Capital Region on
May 15, 2019
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Charmaine Ushkow upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Creative Spirit Award by The Arts Center of the Capital Region, to
be celebrated at its 2019 Gala on Wednesday, May 15, 2019; and
WHEREAS, The Creative Spirit Award recognizes all aspects of
creative thinking, from arts and culture, to business strategy, to
innovation and entrepreneurship; Charmaine Ushkow is receiving this
prestigious award for her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
profession and community; and
WHEREAS, In April of 2004, Charmaine Ushkow began her long and
distinguished career with the Times Union in its advertising department;
since 2010, she has held the title of Director of Community Engagement;
in this capacity, she is the representative for the newspaper at various
Capital Region events, assists in directing charitable donations and
advertising grants, and supports area not-for-profits and other
community based philanthropic organizations; and
WHEREAS, Prior to this role, Charmaine Ushkow was the Director of
Advertising for Time Warner Cable from 1988-1997; and
WHEREAS, Well-respected within her profession, Charmaine Ushkow has
served as President of the Albany Advertising Club, the Alliance for
Women in Media, and New York State Newspaper Advertising and Marketing
Executives; today, she is a vital member of the Funders Alliance and the
Corporate Committee for the University at Albany; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Charmaine Ushkow upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Creative Spirit Award by The Arts Center of the Capital Region;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Charmaine Ushkow.
