CONGRATULATING Dr. Dustin Swanger upon the
occasion of his retirement after 13 years of
dedicated service as President of Fulton-Montgomery
Community College
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Dr. Dustin Swanger upon the occasion of his retirement
after 13 years of dedicated service as President of Fulton-Montgomery
Community College; he will officially retire from this esteemed position
on Wednesday, July 31, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Dustin Swanger has served as President of
Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, New York, for 13
years, during which time he worked tirelessly to improve campus
facilities, establish new community partnerships, develop new supports
to retain students, and consolidate academic programming; and
WHEREAS, Prior to his career at Fulton-Montgomery Community College,
Dr. Dustin Swanger served as Provost and Academic Vice President for
Luzerne Community College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was Associate Vice President and Dean for
Workforce Development and Technical Education at Monroe Community
College in Rochester, New York, and served as Director of Program
Development at Rochester Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, With a career in higher education which has spanned 33
years, Dr. Dustin Swanger has worked to bring the higher education
institutions and the community closer together through developing
programs to serve the local region, providing training for the area
workforce, representing the college on numerous community planning
committees, and speaking with a number of groups on the importance of
college-community relations; and
WHEREAS, Dustin Swanger received his doctorate in higher education
from Nova Southeastern University, his master's in public administration
from the State University of New York at Brockport, and his bachelor's
degree in political science from SUNY Fredonia; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his partner, Evan, who has
shown him love and support and rejoices in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, The residents of Fulton and Montgomery counties are indeed
fortunate and blessed to have had such a dedicated and respected
educational leader; his wisdom and contributions to Fulton-Montgomery
Community College have truly made a difference in the lives of those
fortunate enough to have worked with him; and
WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Dr. Dustin Swanger has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered for
the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the entire
community; and
WHEREAS, In completing his service as President, Dr. Dustin Swanger
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a
legacy to the students of Fulton-Montgomery Community College and to the
residents of Fulton and Montgomery counties; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Dustin Swanger upon the occasion of his retirement
after 13 years of dedicated service as President of Fulton-Montgomery
Community College; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Dustin Swanger.
