Senate Resolution No. 1578
 
BY: Senator AKSHAR
 
        COMMENDING  Dave  Hamburg upon the occasion of his
        retirement after 13 years of  distinguished  service
        to the Department of Transportation Region 9
 
  WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the  best  interests  of  their
community and the needs of its residents; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commend  Dave Hamburg upon the occasion of his retirement after 13 years
of distinguished service to the Department of Transportation  Region  9,
he will officially retire on June 28, 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS, Dave Hamburg spent his junior year of high school attending
American  University's  AP  Political  Science  Summer Session and, upon
graduating, he  continued  his  studies  at  Broome  Community  College,
Binghamton, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In 1978, Dave Hamburg began his illustrious 22-year career
as a radio broadcaster; from there, he continued in the field as a  disc
jockey,  newscaster, reporter, and freelance sports reporter for several
radio networks including  ABC,  Associated  Press,  CBS,  NBC,  and  the
Sheridan Broadcasting Network; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  1983,  Dave  Hamburg  joined the Sheridan Broadcasting
Network as a  full-time  sports  anchor/reporter  in  Florida;  he  then
transferred    to   Sheridan   company   headquarters   in   Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania; and
 
  WHEREAS, Upon his mother's passing in 1991, Dave Hamburg moved  back
to  his hometown of Binghamton, New York, to be closer to his father and
family, and went to work with the State of New York with the  Department
of  Labor (DOL) Division of Unemployment as a Senior Employment Security
Clerk; in  2004,  he  was  promoted  to  Labor  Services  Representative
(Unemployment Insurance Claims Examiner); and
 
  WHEREAS,  He  served  as  the recorded voice of the DOL Unemployment
Insurance Interactive Voice Response system; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  2006,  he  started  working  for  the  Department   of
Transportation (DOT) as the Regional Public Information Officer; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Dave   Hamburg   takes  pride  in  the  positive  working
relationship and DOT image he has developed and  fostered  over  his  13
years  working  with  regional  media  and co-workers, as well as the 20
years he worked for the State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  his   career,   Dave   Hamburg   served   with
intelligence and caring dedication, continuously striving to effectively
fulfill the duties of his position; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Sincerely  loved  and  greatly respected by all those with
whom he worked,  Dave  Hamburg  will  be  remembered  for  his  honesty,
integrity,  keen  sense  of  duty  and ability to show a unique grasp of
human problems in his official acts; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the  maintenance  of  high  standards  in  their
profession,  certainly  have  earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend  Dave  Hamburg  upon  the  occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service, and to wish him continued success in all
his future endeavors; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Dave Hamburg.
