COMMENDING The Reverend Alfred A. Lamanna upon the
occasion of celebrating the 70th Anniversary of his
ordination to the Most Holy Priesthood on June 9,
2019
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish
themselves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and
preeminence of service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend The Reverend Alfred A. Lamanna upon the occasion of celebrating
the 70th Anniversary of his ordination to the Most Holy Priesthood on
Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Alfred A. Lamanna was born on September 5, 1921, in the
City of Amsterdam, New York, the son of Louis and Louise Delli Veneri
Lamanna; he graduated from Wilbur Lynch High School in 1940, and went on
to Siena College, Catholic University and St. Bonaventure University;
and
WHEREAS, After attending Christ the King Seminary, Alfred A. Lamanna
was ordained a priest at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by
Edmund Gibbons, bishop of the Albany Diocese, on June 11, 1949; and
WHEREAS, During the summer of that year, Father Alfred A. Lamanna
began his illustrious career at the Cathedral before being assigned to
St. Mary's Parish in Little Falls; he went on to serve as an assistant
pastor at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel in Frankfort, New York from
1952-1958, returning as pastor in July of 1969; and
WHEREAS, Upon his retirement in 1994, Father Alfred A. Lamanna
continued to serve the parishes of Herkimer, Montgomery County in the
Albany Diocese, and Oneida County in the Syracuse Diocese; in addition,
he served as the National Boy Scout chaplain and on the Diocesan
Committee for Italian Immigration; and
WHEREAS, Father Alfred A. Lamanna has been a member of the Knights
of Columbus for over 60 Years, serving as chaplain of the Herkimer
Council; he is also the former spiritual advisor to the St. Pio Prayer
Group in New Hartford, New York; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he served as the Central New York promoter for
the canonization of Cardinal Terrance Cooke, and on the board of
directors of Catholic Charities of Herkimer County; and
WHEREAS, Father Alfred A. Lamanna has brought to his ministry an
overwhelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and
professional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given
enlightenment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and
has administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and
corporal needs of all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Reverend Alfred A. Lamanna upon the occasion of celebrating
the 70th Anniversary of his ordination to the Most Holy Priesthood,
noting his unremitting and compassionate faith and his exemplary service
to God, man, and his community, and extending to him the heartfelt best
wishes of this Legislative Body for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Reverend Alfred A. Lamanna.
