HONORING James Jones, P.E., CFM upon the occasion
of his retirement after 30 years of distinguished
service to the Town of Tonawanda on June 1, 2019
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
James Jones, P.E., CFM upon the occasion of his retirement after 30
years of distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda on Saturday,
June 1, 2019; and
WHEREAS, James Jones began his career working as an associate
engineer for C and S Engineers, and EMS Consulting, both located in
Buffalo, New York; he is a member of several engineering and planning
organizations, including the Institute of Transportation Engineers,
American Society of Civil Engineers, and American Public Works
Association of North America and Congress for New Urbanism; and
WHEREAS, While employed with the Town of Tonawanda, James Jones held
two positions for many years; he began working in 1989 as a Junior
Engineer, a position he held until 2010, as well as a Network
Administrator from 1999-2010; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, James Jones rose through the ranks and became the
Town Engineer of Tonawanda, responsible for overseeing waterfront
sustainability initiatives and daily public works duties, he also serves
as the town's Geographic Information System (GIS) manager; and
WHEREAS, This impressive man has worked on many transportation,
public works and planning projects; he has also served as Regional
Director of the New York State Floodplain and Stormwater Managers
Association; and
WHEREAS, With an affinity for walkability and bicycling, James Jones
often leads the conversation regarding appropriate services for all
users of the public right-of-way; he was also instrumental in
designing/implementing the bike path and is in the process of the
conversion of street lights to LED; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, James Jones was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Town of Tonawanda, James Jones
has earned the admiration, esteem, and affection of his colleagues; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James Jones upon the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of
distinguished service to the Town of Tonawanda, New York, and to wish
him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to James Jones, P.E., CFM.
