CONGRATULATING Father Vincent P. Long upon the
occasion of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his
Ordination to the Priesthood
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish
themselves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and
preeminence of service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Father Vincent P. Long upon the occasion of celebrating the
50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood; and
WHEREAS, Vincent P. Long grew up in Syracuse, New York, where
church, faith and music were always important to his family; he
graduated from North High School and worked as a substitute organist at
Our Lady of Pompei Church; and
WHEREAS, Ordained on May 17, 1969, Father Vincent P. Long's priestly
service began at St. Ann's in Syracuse and Our Lady of Lourdes in Utica;
he went on to teach religion at Rome Catholic High School; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure which has spanned five
decades, Father Vincent P. Long has served as a parish priest, religion
teacher, hospital chaplain, prison chaplain, and currently, pastor of
the Parish Community of St. Leo and St. Ann in Holland Patent; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his full-time work at St. Leo and St. Ann,
Father Vincent P. Long serves as a chaplain at medium security prisons,
including Marcy Correctional Facility, Mid-State Correctional Facility
and Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, New York; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given
enlightenment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and
has administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and
corporal needs of all; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when a
person of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our
attention it is appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and
commend that individual for the edification of others; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulating Father Vincent P. Long upon the occasion of celebrating
the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Father Vincent P. Long.
