Senate Resolution No. 2103

RECOGNIZING October 1, 2019, as China Day and the
first week of October 2019, as Chinese American
Heritage Week to strengthen the friendship and
bilateral relationship between the State of New York
and Chinese Americans
WHEREAS, The United States officially normalized relations with the
People's Republic of China in 1979 to sustain a close bilateral
relationship and to advance mutual security and commercial interests
between the U.S. and China; and
WHEREAS, The United States and China share a long term economic
relationship, with $659.8 billion in bilateral trade in 2018, making
China the largest trading partner of the United States; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York exported $3.3 billion worth of
products to China, making the 8th largest foreign market for the State
of New York, and the bilateral trade and investment have created tens of
thousands of jobs in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Chinese American helped completed the Transcontinental
Railroad and 1 in 5 Chinese Americans enlisted to serve in World War II;
and
WHEREAS, The State of New York is home to a thriving overseas ethnic
Chinese communities that support the People's Republic of China,
including the America Chinese Development Center, Asian American
Community Empowerment, American Chinese Commerce Association, that
devoted themselves to the harmony and development of the community of
the State of New York, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize October 1, 2019, as China Day and the first week of October
2019, as Chinese American Heritage Week to strengthen the friendship and
bilateral relationship between the State of New York and Chinese
Americans; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China,
and to Consul General Huang Ping of the Consulate General of the
People's Republic of China in New York.
