Senate Resolution No. 2111

        COMMENDING  Joseph  W. Styno posthumously upon the
        occasion of his designation for special  recognition
        by Rensselaer County at its Honor a Deceased Veteran
        Ceremony on November 12, 2019
 
  WHEREAS,  Members  of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars  in  which  this
country's  freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Joseph  W.
Styno  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of his designation for special
recognition by  Rensselaer  County  at  its  Honor  a  Deceased  Veteran
Ceremony to be celebrated on Tuesday, November 12, 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Joseph  W.  Styno was born to Rose (Pietrafesa) and Joseph
Styno on May 25, 1925, in Troy, New York, where he graduated  from  high
school  in  1943;  he earned his bachelor's degree from Siena College in
1950; and
 
  WHEREAS, On October 25, 1943, Joseph W. Styno enlisted in the United
States Army and proudly served his country as a Technician Fourth  Grade
with  Battery  C  116th  Field  Artillery  Battalion  stationed  in  the
Philippines; and
 
  WHEREAS, For his courageous service during World War II,  Joseph  W.
Styno  was awarded the Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal,
Philippines' Liberation Ribbon, and the Bronze Service Arrowhead; and
 
  WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his  military  service  on  February
20th,  1946,  Joseph  W.  Styno  returned to his hometown and earned his
bachelor's degree from Siena College in 1950; and
 
  WHEREAS, On October 26, 1952,  Joseph  W.  Styno  married  the  late
Adeline  Ricci at Saint Mary's Church in Troy; together, they raised two
daughters, Sandra and Kathleen, and were the loving grandparents of  two
grandchildren, Stephanie and Heather; and
 
  WHEREAS,  For many years, Joseph W. Styno worked as a supervisor for
the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, retiring in 1995,
after 45 years of service; in his much deserved retirement,  he  enjoyed
various  sports  including bowling, baseball and football; he especially
enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees and  the  Washington  Redskins;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  Active  in  his  community,  Joseph  W. Styno served as an
Eucharistic Minister for Saint Francis de Sales Parish in Troy; and
 
  WHEREAS, Joseph W. Styno died on December 4, 2005, at the age of 80,
and was buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Troy; and
 
  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must  recognize
 
that  no  greater  debt  is  owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to  be  missing
in action; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Joseph W. Styno  demonstrated  his  love  for  his  country  and  merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend   Joseph   W.  Styno  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his
designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor  a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony on November 12, 2019; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Joseph W. Styno.
