COMMENDING Jasmine Shea upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by In Our Own
Voices, Inc. on July 21, 2019
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the profound impact of
those exemplary individuals within the great State of New York who
proactively work for the enfranchisement of minority communities, and
the importance of such work for the benefit of all citizens of this
State, and indeed, all citizens of the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jasmine Shea upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by In Our Own Voices, Inc., to be celebrated at its Jazz in
July Event commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising
on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady, New
York; and
WHEREAS, In Our Own Voices is an autonomous organization dedicated
to addressing the many needs and ensuring the physical, mental,
spiritual, political, cultural, and economic survival and growth of the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People of Color (LGBT POC)
community in the Capital Region of Upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, In Our Own Voices is proudly recognizing Jasmine Shea for
her tireless efforts in creating positive change in Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual and Transgender People of Color communities; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Albany, New York, Jasmine Shea truly believes
in the great potential of her community and enjoys watching it thrive;
she is a well-known supporter of LGBTQ rights, women's reproduction
rights, and the racial discrimination of people of color; and
WHEREAS, Jasmine Shea has already accomplished numerous goals in her
life; she recently earned her bachelor's degree in economics from SUNY
Albany, and for her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
community, she was the recipient of the Sarah Weddington Award; and
WHEREAS, Our society is greatly benefited by the purposeful efforts
of individuals who unite for the cause of improving the quality of life
for others, and who proactively work toward the goal of dignity for all;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jasmine Shea upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by In Our Own Voices, Inc. on July 21, 2019; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jasmine Shea.
