Senate Resolution No. 2170
 
BY: Senator JORDAN
 
        COMMENDING  Ronald  A.  Carlucci posthumously upon
        the occasion of his designation as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peace-time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Ronald A.
Carlucci posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as  recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New  York  State  Senate, to be presented at the Columbia County Honor a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony on Monday, August 26, 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established  by
Resolution  and  is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf  of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Ronald  Andrew  Carlucci  was  born  to  Augusto  and Sara
(Gasparri) Carlucci on January 2, 1935, in Hudson, New  York,  where  he
graduated from high school in 1952; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Ronald  A.  Carlucci entered the United States Army on May
20, 1954; after basic training at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, he received eight
weeks of training as a teletype operator at Fort Gordon, Georgia; and
 
  WHEREAS, Private First Class Ronald A. Carlucci was assigned to duty
in Japan in the Signal Corps, and after 17 months of overseas  duty,  he
returned to the United States; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On May 3, 1956, Private First Class Ronald A. Carlucci was
honorably discharged from active duty at Fort Dix and was transferred to
the Army Reserves where he continued his service as a  signal  corpsman;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  For his meritorious service, Private First Class Ronald A.
Carlucci was awarded the National Defense Service  Medal  and  the  Good
Conduct Medal; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Upon  the  completion  of  his military service, Ronald A.
Carlucci returned to  his  hometown  and  married  the  former  Florence
Schmitt  on February 21, 1960; together, they raised two children, James
and Lynn; and
 
  WHEREAS, For 25 years, Ronald  A.  Carlucci  worked  as  a  computer
technician and field engineer for IBM in Kingston, New York, retiring in
August of 1991; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Active  in  his  community,  Ronald A. Carlucci was a life
member of the Washington Hose Fire Co. of Hudson, a  25-year  member  of
 
the  IBM  Club, and belonged to the Jennings Willet American Legion Post
in Germantown, New York; in addition, he served as a communicant of Holy
Trinity/St.  Mary's Catholic Church; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Ronald  A.  Carlucci  died  on  September  15,  2014,  in
Germantown, at the age of 79, and was buried in Cedar Park  Cemetery  in
Hudson,  New York; he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Florence, his
two children, and two grandchildren; and
 
  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must  recognize
that  no  greater  debt  is  owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to  be  missing
in action; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Ronald A. Carlucci demonstrated his love  for  his  country  and  merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend  Ronald  A.  Carlucci  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor  bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Ronald A. Carlucci.
