Senate Resolution No. 2173
 
BY: Senator JORDAN
 
        COMMENDING Edwin W. Faulkner posthumously upon the
        occasion  of  his  designation  as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty Medal, the highest honor  bestowed  upon  an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS,  Members  of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars  in  which  this
country's  freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend  Edwin  W.
Faulkner  posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate, to be presented at the Saratoga  County  Honor  a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony on Tuesday, August 20, 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS, Edwin  W.  Faulkner  was  born  on  October  28,  1936,  in
Mechanicville, New York; after graduating with the first senior class of
Shenendehowa Central School in 1954, he attended the State University of
New York at Cobleskill; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On  August  27,  1956,  Edwin  W. Faulkner enlisted in the
United States Marines, and completed his basic training at Camp Lejeune,
North Carolina, and was later stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina,
where he proudly served his country as a Message Center Man with the 2nd
Marine Aircraft Wing; and
 
  WHEREAS, In  this  capacity,  Edwin  W.  Faulkner  was  involved  in
communications,  using  all types of cryptographic systems and equipment
for secure encoded messages and dispatches; he also served a three month
tour of duty in the Mediterranean; and
 
  WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on  August  26,
1958,  with  the  rank  of Corporal, Edwin W. Faulkner was employed with
Behr-Manning (now known as St. GoBain) in his hometown for 28 years; and
 
  WHEREAS, Active in his community, Edwin W. Faulkner was the Assessor
for the Town of Halfmoon for three decades, and was a participant of the
New York State Assessors Association; in  addition,  he  was  a  charter
member  of  the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, Ondawa 840 Masonic
Lodge, and NCT a Masonic Family Camping Club; and
 
  WHEREAS, Edwin W. Faulkner was married to Gladys for 54  years,  and
together, they raised four sons; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Edwin  W. Faulkner died on July 2, 2014, at the age of 77;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must  recognize
that  no  greater  debt  is  owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to  be  missing
in action; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Edwin W. Faulkner demonstrated his  love  for  his  country  and  merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend  Edwin  W.  Faulkner  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor  bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Edwin W. Faulkner.
