CONGRATULATING Humera Khan upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Reverend Carlyle
Adams Ecumenical and Interfaith Award by the Capital
Area Council of Churches on September 18, 2019
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in our great Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Humera Khan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Reverend Carlyle Adams Ecumenical and Interfaith Award by the Capital
Area Council of Churches, to be celebrated on Wednesday, September 18,
2019; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is bestowed upon a person who
exemplifies an inclusive spirit, works to build bridges among religious
groups, and is active in an ecumenical program or project; Humera Khan
is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, Humera Khan, born and educated in India, has spent time as
a teaching assistant in Niskayuna, New York and is active with the
Islamic Center of the Capital District since moving to the area in 2000;
and
WHEREAS, She selflessly counsels women with histories of domestic
violence, helps refugees, and works with food pantries and children; she
is also involved with the Schenectady Clergy Against Hate, Roman
Catholic Diocese of Albany and Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom; and
WHEREAS, Humera Khan, along with her loving husband, Dr. Saeed Khan,
was awarded the Robert and Dorothy Ludwig Interfaith Award by the
Interfaith Community of Schenectady; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Humera Khan has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Humera Khan on the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Reverend Carlyle Adams Ecumenical and Interfaith Award by the
Capital Area Council of Churches, noting the work she has done to
enhance the lives of women in the Capital Region and join together
individuals of different faiths; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Humera Khan.
