Senate Resolution No. 2205
 
BY: Senator JORDAN
 
        COMMENDING  Harold  W.  Krambeck posthumously upon
        the occasion of his designation as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Harold W.
Krambeck posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as  recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New  York  State  Senate, to be presented at the Columbia County Honor a
Veteran Ceremony on Monday, October 21, 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established  by
Resolution  and  is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf  of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Harold  Wayne  Krambeck was born on September 25, 1929, to
Harry and Dorothy (Tietz) Krambeck in Moline, Illinois; he was raised in
East Moline and is a graduate of United Township High School,  Class  of
1947; while attending school, he worked at John Deere Harvester; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On  August  4, 1948, Harold W. Krambeck entered the United
States Army in Rock Island, Illinois; following basic training,  he  was
trained  as  a light weapons infantryman where he was a qualified expert
with the M-1 Rifle; and
 
  WHEREAS, Harold W. Krambeck was assigned to Company A, 3rd  Infantry
at  Fort  Myers, Virginia, which was known as the "Old Guard" and is the
Army's official ceremonial unit, escort to the President,  and  provides
security for Washington, DC; it is the oldest active-duty infantry unity
in the United States Army, having served our Nation since 1784; and
 
  WHEREAS,  While  serving  in this famed unit, Harold W. Krambeck was
promoted to Private First Class on July 15, 1949, and again to  Corporal
on October 3, 1950; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Corporal  Harold W. Krambeck served as a Sentinel, Tomb of
the Unknown Soldier  with  Company  E,  3d  Infantry  Regiment  and  was
authorized to wear the Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Identification
Badge, as a permanent part of his uniform; and
 
  WHEREAS, On June 15, 1952, Corporal Harold W. Krambeck was honorably
discharged at Fort Myers; and
 
  WHEREAS, Harold W. Krambeck married Elizabeth Altermer while serving
in  the  Armed Services; together, they raised two wonderful sons, Wayne
and Ronnie; in the summer of 1977, Harold was  married  again  to  Viola
Alger in a private ceremony in Hudson, New York; and
 
 
  WHEREAS,  He  worked as a mechanic with the Universal Match Factory,
in Hudson, before retiring after 32 years of devoted service; and
 
  WHEREAS, Active in his community, Harold W. Krambeck was a member of
the American Legion Post No. 184 for 34 years, where, for several years,
he served as its Commander; and
 
  WHEREAS, Harold W. Krambeck died on November 13, 2018, at the age of
88; he was interned in Cedar Park Cemetery, in Hudson,  presided  by  an
honor guard from his former unit; and
 
  WHEREAS, In addition to his two sons, Harold W. Krambeck is survived
by  his wife, Viola; and five step-children, Sharon, Mike, David, Dennis
and Cindy;  as  well  as  several  nieces,  nephews,  grandchildren  and
great-grandchildren; and
 
  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with  which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed  to  those  who  gave  their
lives  for  their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
 
  WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at  home  and  abroad,
Harold  W.  Krambeck  demonstrated  his  love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be  recognized,  commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Harold  W.  Krambeck  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his
designation  as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of Harold W. Krambeck.
