Senate Resolution No. 2219

        CONGRATULATING  Selina  Moore upon the occasion of
        capturing the 2024 145-pound title at  the  National
        High School Coaches Association Championships
 
  WHEREAS,  Excellence  and  success  in  competitive  sports  can  be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team  play  and  team  spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Athletic  competition  enhances  the  moral  and  physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing  them  for  the
future  by  instilling  in  them  the  value  of teamwork, encouraging a
standard  of  healthy  living,  imparting  a  desire  for  success,  and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud to congratulate
Selina Moore upon the occasion of capturing the 2024 145-pound title  at
the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) Championships, held
the weekend of April 5-7, 2024, in Virginia Beach, Virginia; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  two-time place winner in the New York State Public High
School Athletic Association's Girls Wrestling Invitational, Selina Moore
earned a national title and All-America accolades  after  going  5-0  at
NHSCAs; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Selina  Moore  opened  with  a 14-8 decision over 2023 New
Jersey state champion Olivia Georges in the round  of  32  and  followed
with  a  pin of Virginia's Ciyanna Okocha in 1 minute, 29 seconds; a 4-2
quarterfinal decision over 2024 Florida state champion Katherine Stewart
set up her 13-4 major decision over 2024 Tennessee state runner-up Sally
Johnson; and
 
  WHEREAS, Buffalo State-bound Selina  Moore  later  beat  2024  North
Carolina  state  champion  Faith  Bane,  3-1,  in the 145-pound national
championship match; Selina struck first in the final  with  a  two-point
takedown  in the first period; each finalist scored one point on escapes
for the final margin; and
 
  WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this  stellar  athlete  is
due  in  great part to the efforts of her committed and talented team of
coaches who are respected for their ability to  develop  potential  into
excellence,  as  well  as  her  various  support  systems  consisting of
prideful family, friends, and the community at large; and
 
  WHEREAS, In light of her recent accomplishments,  Selina  Moore  has
brought  honor  and just pride to her school and community on the local,
state, and national level; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  Selina  Moore  upon  the  occasion  of  capturing the 2024
145-pound  title  at  the  National  High  School  Coaches   Association
Championships; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Selina Moore.
