Senate Resolution No. 2228

        HONORING  Amy  Halloran  upon  the occasion of her
        designation as recipient of the  Sister  Mary  Coons
        Award  by The Food Pantries for the Capital District
        on October 3, 2019
 
  WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize  and  acknowledge  those  within  our  midst  who  have   made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
 
  WHEREAS,  From  time  to  time,  this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals  it  wishes  to  recognize  for  their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Amy Halloran upon the occasion of her designation as  recipient  of  the
Sister  Mary  Coons Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital District,
to be  observed  at  its  8th  Annual  Harvest  Evening  Celebration  on
Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Franklin Plaza in Troy, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The Sister Mary Coons Award is given annually to those who
exemplify the values of The Food Pantries for the Capital District;  Amy
Halloran  is  truly deserving of this prestigious honor for all the work
she has done for Unity House and the lives she has impacted  by  raising
awareness  of  food insecurity and encouraging discussion to end hunger;
and
 
  WHEREAS, In addition to her work with Unity House, Amy Halloran  has
supported  the  fight  against hunger by running Troy Waterfront Farmers
Market, writing about agriculture,  and  collecting  and  redistributing
groceries  from  an  over-productive  food system to make meals to share
from her dining room table; and
 
  WHEREAS, This remarkable woman also teaches classes at  farming  and
food  conferences,  as  well  as the Troy Public Library in an effort to
educate others on marketing for farms and food enterprises; in  addition
to this, she often weaves together history and personal experiences; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown  a
long  and  sustained  commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Amy Halloran upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Sister Mary Coons  Award  by  The  Food  Pantries  for  the  Capital
District; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Amy Halloran.
