CONGRATULATING the Moravia High School Boys
Basketball Team upon the occasion of capturing the
NYSPHSAA Basketball Class C Championship on March
16, 2024
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Moravia High School Boys Basketball Team upon the occasion of capturing
the NYSPHSAA Basketball Class C Championship, held on Saturday, March
16, 2024, at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of their excited fans, the
Moravia High School Boys Basketball Team bested Haldane in a decisive
41-38 victory at the Class C Championship to win the state title; and
WHEREAS, Their program not winning a state title since 2017, the
Blue Devils were determined as they entered the finals; after trailing
for much of the first half, the team came back in the second half with
incredible motivation to put the odds in their favor; and
WHEREAS, A tough competitor, the Moravia High School Boys Basketball
Team played a tight man-to-man defense, shutting down Haldane; in the
second half of the game, the Blue Devils outscored their opponent 19-13
and continued to keep their lead to the end; and
WHEREAS, With the Moravia High School Girls Basketball Team
capturing the championship as well on March 15, 2024, it is the first
time ever a school from Section IV has earned both the boys and girls
state titles in the same year; both teams received a joyous welcome home
from the community with a "champions parade" through the village; and
WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of blue and white,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported the Blue Devils throughout their journey as they ended their
season with an impressive 22-3 overall record; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as basketball, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Todd Mulvaney and Assistant
Coaches Gabe Short, Parker Dickenson, and Cory Langtry have worked hard
to hone the skills of this championship team, teaching these outstanding
athletes lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off the court;
and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Todd Mulvaney and Assistant Coaches Gabe Short,
Parker Dickenson, and Cory Langtry, and all of the outstanding athletes
on the Moravia High School Boys Basketball Team have clearly utilized
dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a lasting
contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their
school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Moravia High School Boys Basketball
Team: Jackson Hares-Ryan, Drew Nye, Thomas Palmer, Riley Jones, Nate
Shaw, Abram Wasileski, Aiden Kelly, Westin Walker, Kyler Proper, Logan
Bell, Kaiden Sharpsteen, Zach Szachta, Dillon Palmer, Eli Landis, Noah
Corbett, Joe Baylor, Jairen Francis, and Will Hess; Managers Dominic
Mulvaney and Drew Famoly; Head Coach Todd Mulvaney; and Assistant
Coaches Gabe Short, Parker Dickenson, and Cory Langtry upon the occasion
of capturing the 2024 NYSPHSAA Basketball Class C Championship on March
16, 2024; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Moravia High School Boys Basketball
Team; Head Coach Todd Mulvaney; Managers Dominic Mulvaney and Drew
Famoly; and Assistant Coaches Gabe Short, Parker Dickenson, and Cory
Langtry.
