COMMEMORATING the Bicentennial of the Medical
Society of the County of Kings on March 2, 2022
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
commend and recognize those organizations within the medical community
for their extraordinary and sustained contributions to the progress of
medicine and the improvement of life; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative body takes pleasure in commemorating the
Bicentennial of the Medical Society of the County of Kings, which was
recognized with a National Doctors' Day Celebration on Wednesday, March
30, 2022; and
WHEREAS, The Medical Society of the County of Kings is the oldest
scientific organization in Brooklyn, New York, and the largest
delegation to the Medical Society of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, On March 2, 1822, at Auld Lang Syne Tavern on Fulton Street
in Brooklyn Heights, the inaugural meeting of the Kings County Medical
Society brought together Brooklyn doctors to "foster progress in the
science and art of medicine and to promote, preserve and enforce the
highest standards of ethical and proficient medical care;" and
WHEREAS, In its 200 years, the Society has hosted numerous
scientific conferences for local, national, and international medical
professionals to present important scientific works, spoken for and
against many important pieces of legislation, and grown to include
thousands of members who serve the people of Brooklyn and support
Brooklynites through political, economic, and health crises; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Bicentennial of the Medical Society of the County of
Kings, and to wish it continued success in the coming years; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Medical Society of the County of Kings.
