COMMENDING Deborah Beahan upon the occasion of her
designation as an Outstanding Senior Citizen of the
Year by the Washington County Office for the Aging
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Deborah
Beahan upon the occasion of her designation as an Outstanding Senior
Citizen of the Year by the Washington County Office for the Aging to be
celebrated at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Friday, June 17, 2022;
and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; this year's theme is "Age My Way"; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Deborah "Debbie" Beahan was born to Adolph and Helen Diskin
in Ticonderoga, New York; in 1974, she and her two children moved to
Hudson Falls, New York, where she worked for the Washington County
Department of Motor Vehicles for 20 years and 12 years as County Clerk;
and
WHEREAS, While she was working at Motor Vehicles, Deborah Beahan met
and married her husband, Thomas, who passed away in 2015, after 33 years
of marriage; and
WHEREAS, For numerous years, Deborah Beahan has volunteered her time
and energies to various organizations such as the Heart Fund and the
Special Olympics where she served as a coach for both bowling and track
and field; and
WHEREAS, Through Washington County, Deborah Beahan helped and
participated in the Breast Cancer Walk and served on Public Health's
Health Committee for employees; for her steadfast and unremitting
commitment to her community, she was honored by the Department of Motor
Vehicles in 1999; and
WHEREAS, For the past nine years, Deborah Beahan has been an active
volunteer at the Senior Center of Kingsbury & Fort Edward Area, Inc.; in
this capacity, she serves as President of the Board of Directors and
meal site manager, supervises the kitchen, and coordinates programs,
activities, and fundraisers; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Beahan is also the Senior Center's OsteoBusters
program leader with the AmeriCorps Seniors/Warren/Washington RSVP
volunteers and is a Cardio Drumming instructor; she also procured and
installed the "My Senior Center" software program that reports
membership, personnel, events, meals, and transportation statistics; and
WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, Deborah Beahan diligently
worked to keep all the members informed about COVID-19 testing and
vaccination information; and
WHEREAS, When she is not helping someone, Deborah Beahan enjoys
spending time with her daughter, Rachel and son-in-law, Jason; her son,
Brian; two grandchildren, Isabella and Aidan; two stepchildren, Beth and
Stephanie; three step-grandchildren, Matt, Tony, and Morgan; and four
step-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, This kindhearted and compassionate woman truly believes
volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it provides a way
in which the human values of community, caring and serving can be
sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Beahan, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Deborah Beahan upon the occasion of her designation as an
Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year by the Washington County Office
for the Aging; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Deborah Beahan.
