COMMENDING the Stuy Park Lions Club, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its 27th Annual Red and White
Winter Gala on February 14, 2020
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those organizations within our midst which
have made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Stuy Park Lions Club, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its
27th Annual Red and White Winter Gala on Friday, February 14, 2020, at
Antun's, Queens Village, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Stuy Park Lions Club, under the able leadership of its
President, Lion Lena Gates, is part of Lions Clubs International, one of
the largest service organizations in the world, and is deeply committed
to meeting the challenges of public service; currently, there are
approximately 45,000 clubs in 204 countries with 1.4 million members;
and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the Stuy Park Lions Club is
proud to serve both the Brooklyn community and the world; its goal is to
evaluate needs within the community, without regard to politics,
religion or race and to support humanitarian projects in the local
community as well as around the world; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Stuy Park Lions Club perform numerous
community service activities including: holding monthly Bingo games and
the Annual Christmas Party for the residents of Concord Nursing Home;
providing Thanksgiving baskets to families in need; distributing toys
and clothes to the homeless children in shelters, back-to-school
supplies in a book bag every school year, and winter coats to
children/persons in need; collecting used eyeglasses for the Lions sight
programs; and donating monetary contributions to nursing homes and other
organizations throughout the community, just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Stuy Park Lions Club has followed
the tenets of the Lions Clubs International organization and has strived
to create an environment where the spirit is uplifted and every
individual is encouraged to take part in the civic, cultural, social and
moral development of their community; members are united through the
mutual understanding of the common goal of serving their community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Stuy Park Lions Club, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its
27th Annual Red and White Winter Gala on Friday, February 14, 2020; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lion Lena Gates, President, Stuy Park Lions Club,
Brooklyn, New York.
