MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
May 2020, as High Blood Pressure Education Month in
the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks that are set aside to increase awareness of serious
health issues that affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 2020, as High Blood
Pressure Education Month in the State of New York, in conjunction with
the observance of National High Blood Pressure Education Month; and
WHEREAS, National High Blood Pressure Education Month marks the
kickoff of high blood pressure prevention and control activities for the
year; and
WHEREAS, The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
launched its first Month campaign in May of 1974; approximately 100
national organizations cooperated in the campaign and more than 200
organizations coordinated activities in their communities during the
month; and
WHEREAS, NHLBI invites community groups, civic and faith-based
organizations, hospital outreach programs, public health departments,
and workplaces to renew activities to prevent and control high blood
pressure; and
WHEREAS, It is imperative that there be greater awareness of this
serious health condition, and more must be done to increase activity at
the local, State and national levels; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 2020, as High Blood
Pressure Education Month in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
