Senate Resolution No. 2665
 
BY: Senator MAYER
 
        COMMENDING   Horace   E.  Anderson  Jr.  upon  the
        occasion of being appointed Dean  of  the  Elisabeth
        Haub School of Law at Pace University
 
  WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and   publicly  acknowledge  individuals  of  remarkable  integrity  and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commend Horace E. Anderson Jr. upon the occasion of being appointed Dean
of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University; and
 
  WHEREAS, Prior to this esteemed appointment, Horace E. Anderson  Jr.
served  as  Haub  Law's interim Dean; thriving under his leadership, the
school increased enrollment,  application  numbers  and  successful  new
programs, including the expansion of its part-time JD program to include
an evening and weekend option; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Under  the  able leadership of Horace E. Anderson Jr., the
Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University was ranked as the number
one environmental law program in  the  country  by  US  News  and  World
Report; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This  impressive  man  began his illustrious career at the
Elisabeth Haub School of Law in 2004; he served as the school's Academic
Dean from 2011 until his appointment last year as interim  Dean;  during
this time he focused on students' professional development and emotional
health,   emphasizing  the  importance  of  cultivating  a  professional
identity, as well as learning to manage stress as they enter  the  legal
profession; and
 
  WHEREAS,  With  a  strong  commitment to supporting underrepresented
minorities in law, Horace E. Anderson Jr. serves as the faculty  advisor
to the Black Law Student Association; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  addition  to  his  law  practice experience, Horace E.
Anderson Jr. advised several  companies  in  business  strategies  as  a
consultant  and  worked  as  a  systems  integration  consultant  in the
Financial Markets Division of Andersen Consulting; and
 
  WHEREAS, Before joining the faculty of Haub Law, Horace E.  Anderson
Jr.    worked  at  White  &  Case  LLP, where he focused on intellectual
property, internet privacy, law and technology, and communications  law;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  Horace E. Anderson Jr. received his JD from the University
of Pennsylvania Law School and a BS in Economics (with  a  concentration
in  finance)  from  the  Wharton School of Business at the University of
Pennsylvania; and
 
  WHEREAS, Horace E. Anderson Jr.'s parents immigrated to this country
from Jamaica 50 years ago; he was the first person in his family born in
the United States, and the first to attend law school; and
 
  WHEREAS, Horace E. Anderson Jr. has been appointed the ninth dean of
the  Elisabeth  Haub  School  of  Law  at Pace University; he has proven
himself an outstanding leader  and  manager  throughout  his  impressive
career  in  academia and law; his strong academic credentials will build
on the Elisabeth Haub School of  Law  at  Pace  University's  legacy  of
excellence, while honoring its proud tradition; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body to commend
individuals of outstanding character,  who  have  shown  initiative  and
commitment  toward  constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and
acting as role models of leadership to be emulated  by  both  peers  and
young people; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Horace E. Anderson Jr. upon the occasion of being appointed Dean
of the Elisabeth Haub School of  Law  at  Pace  University;  and  be  it
further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Horace E. Anderson Jr.
