Senate Resolution No. 2896

BY: Senator HINCHEY

COMMENDING Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and
Dylan Liquari upon the occasion of their designation
as recipients of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State
        Senate

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, nobly risking
their own lives to preserve the life of another; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State  Senate;
and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, On the evening of Sunday, August 7, 2022, Peter Liquari III
and his three sons were traveling home from South Westerlo when they
came across a car accident that had just occurred; one car was engulfed
in flames with the driver pinned inside and no sign of first responder
vehicles at that point; and

WHEREAS, Peter Liquari III sprung into action at the scene, pulling
a garden hose from a house nearby, hoping to help put out the fire; in
realizing the hose was not long enough, he grabbed four buckets to fill,
and that is when his three children, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari,
and Dylan Liquari left the safety of their car to help extinguish the
fire; and

WHEREAS, Their swift action in forming a "bucket brigade" was
paramount to stopping the fire from spreading into the driver's
compartment; Greenville Fire Chief Kip Drollette noted that "if they did
not throw water on the car, the driver would not have made it"; and

WHEREAS, Clifton Powell, Jr., Chairman of the Greenville Fire
District Board of Commissioners, stated that he cannot recall a time
locally when civilians as young as the Liquari brothers saved someone's
life; and

WHEREAS, Justly recognized as heroes, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas
Liquari, and Dylan Liquari richly merit the admiration of this
Legislative Body and their community for their consummate, swift action
in saving the life of a driver; and

WHEREAS, Moreover, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan
Liquari should be meritoriously commended for remaining calm under

pressure and for showing valor and true courage while performing a
lifesaving deed; and

WHEREAS, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari, in
their spontaneous and heroic acts, have so aptly demonstrated their
character and compassion for the welfare of others, personifying, by
virtue of their action, the collective concern of ordinary citizens
across the community of New York State who voluntarily respond without
thought of danger or reward when others are in need of help; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State  Senate;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari.
