MOURNING the death of Robert L. Langley, Sr.,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Robert L. Langley, Sr. of Putnam County, New York, died on
Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, Born in Dallas, Texas, to Loren and Jeanett Langley, Robert
L. Langley, Sr. was the oldest of three children; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Garland, Texas, he went on to proudly serve his
country as a member of the United States Air National Guard of Texas,
receiving an honorable discharge in 1954; and
WHEREAS, Upon his discharge, Robert L. Langley, Sr. immediately
enlisted with the United States Coast Guard, and was later stationed on
Brothers Island in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Robert L. Langley, Sr. met the love of his life, Lorraine,
and they were married in New York on July 20, 1957; and
WHEREAS, After receiving an honorable discharge from the United
States Coast Guard in 1962, Robert L. Langley, Sr. and his family moved
to Putnam County, settling in the Town of Carmel; and
WHEREAS, Robert L. Langley, Sr. distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Robert L. Langley, Sr. retired in 1996 from the New York
State Power Authority as a Sergeant with security for Indian Point in
Buchanan; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, Lorraine F. Langley in 2019, and
his daughter, Karen Ann Leonard in 2007, Robert L. Langley, Sr. is
survived by his son, Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. and
his wife, Lydia; and his sister, Frances Bunch; as well as his four
grandchildren, Christopher, Robert III, Michael and Meagan; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Robert L. Langley, Sr. leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Robert L. Langley, Sr., and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Robert L. Langley, Sr.
