Assembly Resolution No. 858

BY: M. of A. Thiele

COMMENDING the Ladies Village Improvement Society
of East Hampton upon the occasion of celebrating its
        125th Anniversary on November 30, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Ladies Village Improvement Society (LVIS) of East Hampton
upon the occasion of its 125th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The LVIS will observe this momentous occasion with a myriad
of events throughout the year including an appearance in the Village
Centennial Parade, a documentary about the organization at Guild Hall, a
historical exhibit at Clinton Academy, a Landmarks Luncheon about 95
Main Street, a talk about the LVIS ladies at the library and a 125th
Anniversary Celebration on Monday, November 30, 2020; and

WHEREAS, The LVIS was formed in 1895 to maintain and preserve East
Hampton's many historical landmarks and for the maintenance of ponds,
parks, greens, and trees in the village and vicinity, as well as for
charitable and educational improvement and the advancement of its
general welfare; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the last 125 years, the LVIS has accomplished
numerous goals and has stayed true to its mission by protecting the
quaintness of the village green and pond, Main Street and Sheep Fold,
and in 1974, through its tireless efforts, the area all around the Town
pond was placed on the National Register of Historic places; and

WHEREAS, Perhaps one of this vital organization's most recognizable
accomplishments has been the planting of elm trees along the streets of
the village; today, approximately 100 of these famous elms remain,
providing beauty and majesty to this beautiful place located at the
eastern end of the South Shore of Long Island; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Ladies Village Improvement Society of East Hampton upon the
occasion of celebrating its 125th Anniversary on November 30, 2020; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
