COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the
incorporation of the Village of East Hampton to be
celebrated on September 26, 2020
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of
East Hampton, in Suffolk County, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Village of East Hampton's history began on September
25, 1920, when residents voted, by a margin of 166 to 57, to break away
from East Hampton Town; today, it is a center of the summer resort and
upscale locality at the East End of Long Island known as The Hamptons
and is generally considered one the United States' most beautiful areas,
with miles of white sandy beach; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of the Village Board of
Trustees, both past and present, the Village of East Hampton has
continually offered its residents and visitors from all over the world a
wide range of fine restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and theater,
and numerous sporting activities; and
WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of
growth and change, the Village of East Hampton continues its commitment
to enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive
business, institutional and educational climate, and boasting a rich
history unparalleled by most communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of
East Hampton, recognizing the significance of the role it continues to
play in the life of the community of the State of New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Richard T. Lawler, Mayor, East Hampton, New York.
