COMMEMORATING the 30th Anniversary of Matthew's
Place in Boonville, New York
WHEREAS, In the course of the evolving development of this Empire
State, if the ingredients of shared concern and responsive endeavor
combine in the commitment to society, there have emerged among the
distinguished citizens of the State of New York certain organizations
which warrant special recognition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Matthew's Place in Boonville, New
York; and
WHEREAS, On March 19, 1990, Matthew's Place Thrift Store and Food
Pantry opened its doors to the community for the first time; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, this vital organization, located at
165 Main Street, has spent the past three decades providing emergency
food and clothing to those in need in the Boonville area; and
WHEREAS, Matthew's Place Ministries was established as the
inspiration of the Reverend Mildred (Micki) Robinson, former pastor of
Boonville's First Presbyterian Church, with the help of several local
churches to serve the needs of its community; and
WHEREAS, Founded on the words as recorded in the Bible in Matthew
25: 35-36, the name Matthew's Place was chosen for this extraordinary
volunteer venture; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its Board of Directors
including its current President Mother Linda Logan, Matthew's Place
carries an extensive variety of merchandise from household goods,
vintage collectibles, gently used and new clothing, toys, books, record
albums, jewelry, and office supplies, as well as sports and medical
equipment; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, sales from the thrift store cover overhead
costs such as rent and taxes, and enable the ministry to purchase
perishable food, including meat and dairy products, for the food pantry;
and
WHEREAS, Matthew's Place Food Pantry offers nutritional assistance
to individuals and families within the Adirondack Central School
District who are experiencing financial hardship; these households
include retirees and working families who struggle to make ends meet or
who face unexpected medical or life events; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 30-year history, Matthew's Place has
demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities which
it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of Matthew's Place is in direct correlation to
the efforts of its volunteers, whose involvement is, and always has
been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Matthew's Place; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Matthew's Place in Boonville, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mother Linda Logan, President, Matthew's Place,
Boonville, New York.
